How to Pray for Your Children
Use these scriptures to when praying for your children. Pray for the related principles to be activated in your children’s life.
1. Pray for their heart to desire and pursue the things of God.
1Chron 29:19 And give my son Solomon a loyal heart to keep Your commandments and Your testimonies and Your statutes, to do all these things, and to build the temple for which I have made provision."
2. Pray for their character to imitate the character of Christ and that they would heartily desire Him. That they will become the person God created them to be.
Gal 5:22-25 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
3. Pray God will bless them all the days of their lives and that uncommon favor will chase them.
Ps 112:2-3 His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches will be in his house, And his righteousness endures forever.
Isa 65:23 they shall not labor in vain, Nor bring forth children for trouble; For they shall be the descendants of the blessed of the Lord, And their offspring with them.
4. Pray that all generational curses would be broken, known and unknown.
Ex 20:5-6 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
5. Pray that their relationships (friends & spouses) are holy and ordained of God.
Gen 24:2-4 So Abraham said to the oldest servant of his house, who ruled over all that he had, "Please, put your hand under my thigh, and I will make you swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell; but you shall go to my country and to my family, and take a wife for my son Isaac."
Gen 28:1-2 then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him, and charged him, and said to him:"You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan. Arise, go to Padan Aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother's father; and take yourself a wife from there of the daughters of Laban your mother's brother.
Prov 17:17 A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity.
All of these prayers you should start to pray for your children from the time of their birth. All of them have an impact on how they are shaped as an adult. All 5 prayers are significant but perhaps the most spiritually decisive of the five is number 5. The greatest influence in your children’s lives apart from you as parents will be the friends they choose. Teach them to choose wisely! Pray for their decisions!
